About Eastern Aleutian Tribes

Eastern Aleutian Tribes, Inc. was formed in 1991 by six Aleut regional tribes, the Agdaagux Tribal Council (King Cove), Akutan Traditional Council, Nelson Lagoon Tribal Council, Unga Tribal Council, Qagan Tayagungin Tribal Council (Sand Point) and the False Pass Tribal Council formed the Eastern Aleutian Tribes to improve the health care in the Aleutian region.  The Pauloff Harbor Tribal Council later joined the original six tribes in there quest to improve the health care in the Aleutian region.

Each tribe is represented within the Eastern Aleutian Tribes Board of Directors. These Directors provide direction to the  goal of improving the health care in the Aleutian region. 

The Aleutian region, with a permanent population of 2,600 and a seasonal population of an additional 8,500, is composed of the rural communities of Sand Point, Akutan, Cold Bay, Nelson Lagoon, False Pass, and King Cove. 

In 1999, Eastern Aleutian Tribes expanded their health care service to include the communities of Adak and Whittier. And in 2005, St. George entered into an agreement to be managed by the Eastern Aleutian Tribes health care system.

Eastern Aleutian Tribes administration and clinical support services, reside in Anchorage.

All locations have endorsed a Tobacco Free / Smoke Free resolution, much like that at ANMC in support of healthy lifestyles for patients and staff.
